Or perhaps having driven a couple? ;) Of course, it's not going to compare to any performance car, but, it's not meant to. I'm just looking at one segment of car at the moment.

The problem is that the mundane, everyday, workhorses have become too expensive for what they are. I'm not looking for a car that my neighbours can coo over, I'm not looking for a car that, pointlessly, does 0 - 60 in sub 6 seconds. I'll be happy with a modern comfortable cabin in a car that drives reasonably well under normal everyday circumstances. (If it is quick and looks good....Bonus! :D )
I'm (obviously) not a badge snob hence spending the next couple of months or so looking around. Some ex-forum members have PM'd me with their experiences in the vehicles they changed to, which is nice and gives some food for thought.
There must also be a good deal on the car. At the moment the Puma isn't working out deal wise for me even if I liked it.

By the way, I've ruled out the Duster having been in one yesterday, the seats are not very comfortable and long journeys would be a nightmare.
Whatever I get will probably be my last individually owned car as we are looking to drop to one car between us. Then I doubt I'll get much say as my Wife will be driving more than me...
Pretty much every car meets that requirement. The best for the money is almost anything but Ford unfortunately, took a while but Ford finally managed it imho. That is based on value for money not necessarily how good or bad they are. Personally for me with your criteria the choice is fairly easy, it would be Seat, Skoda, Kia, Nissan, Renault, Hyundai or Mazda. All far better cars for the money than Ford’s. Apart from Focus, it is good but about finished and the Kuga which is hugely overpriced.
Agreed...I would add Toyota to my list though.
Had a RAV4 (good) Avensis T180 (crap) and a Corolla (good in 90’s!) All manual, current cars are all automatic so rules them out for me, thought of a auto in a little car is a no no. They are all just s bit boring now. Would climb over them for a Mazda, they are generally more than a match in driving dynamics to a Ford
