Hi all, I have just joined to respond to this thread. I have been an owner of a Ford Puma St-Line X 155 since December 2021. I purchased this from a Ford dealer, at the time of purchase it had completed 1500 miles. On Tuesday November 5th, (at mileage 46k) I was unable to engage into 2nd gear, I was nearby my workplace at the time, so after stopping to wonder what was best to do, I drove to work using every gear except 2nd. During the day I rang my local Ford dealers, one of which did not have any availability to assess my car until the following week, and another would not be able to assess my car until 20th November. I left work early and immediately drove to a local garage, it was recommended to me, although it was not a Ford Dealer. I needed my car fixed asap, the warranty on my car had expired, Ford wanted £139 just to assess.
I sent an email to Ford using the email address I found on this thread. They responded with a generic email asking lots of questions, which I immediately replied to. I couldn't seem to get any help from them so on Saturday 9th November, I gave instruction for my local garage to repair the car (cost quoted is just over £1600), it would have been over £2100 for a refurb gear box replacement.
The car was serviced at correct service intervals, once with Ford, the second time at Halford Autocentres.
I doubted Ford would have refunded any money to me, of course they will not now as my car is being fixed elsewhere. I just wanted to let you all know that I am another unhappy Ford Puma owner, this problem appears to be so common. I am thinking of getting it fixed and then selling it before it happens again. Which of course leads me to another problem; how rapidly the depreciation has occurred. Over the duration I have owned the vehicle, the valuation has declined by 16k. Thank you for reading. Gav.
Gearbox Issue - 2nd gear dead
Struggle to see how an independent can justify over £1600 to replace a syncro hub, maybe a seal and gasket or three and thats it, rest labour. At indi of about £60 hour thats got to be about 20 hours labour. More realistic would be 2 hours out 2 hours in and 2 hours to repair, total around £360 + parts. Dunno, £200 max, so around £600 all done, where the hell does the other £1000 come from? Ford are different they will do a factory exchange gearbox, all proper mechanics should repair or take it to a specialist that does, plenty around.
Seems in these days of lack of abilty we are constantly taken for a ride.

I think the dealers are repairing the boxes now rather than exchanging them if under warranty4251 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 1:27 pm Struggle to see how an independent can justify over £1600 to replace a syncro hub, maybe a seal and gasket or three and thats it, rest labour. Ford are aware of the problem hence the tsb for the workshop manual which lists all the parts required to repair the second gear syncro's.

Matt Albright, BBC Watchdog. It's about time this was made public.
Your other option is Consumer Rights Act as you have rights up to 6 years. If the car is under finance the finance company can step in.
Coming towards the end of when the car was 3 years old you can have extended the warranty for £195.
If this was my car I would get a second hand gearbox from eBay and get an independent garage to fit it.

More like mechanic or parts error. There can be no driver error with the gearbox unless you have a habit of resting your hand on the gear lever.Fo77y wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 7:41 pm Let’s see were do I start

We have a 2023 ST-Line Vignale 155 with less than 18k miles on the clock and today lost second gear… just suddenly grated and kicked out of gear when gearing down from 3rd. Even tried a good old double clutch which didn’t help. I suspect with the other gears still working fine that it’s a manufacturer fault with the synchromesh!? Terrible timing as we’re about to leave to see the family for Christmas!
