You're right it's not, which exposes this tax for the legalised scam that it is because more and more average cars are becoming subject to it. :x

Ford are pricing themselves out now. Some Kuga's are attracting luxury car VED and to me Ford is not a luxury brand. They make some nice cars but £40k for a Kuga which is going to retain about 55% of its value at 3 years old is a lot of money to be losing.
I still can't believe I paid 16K for a brand new Kuga when they were released in 2008, albeit the Zetec version but AWD.

The issue is the VED threshold hasn't gone up with inflation, £40k isnt a luxury car at all.

My previous car a Seat Leon Cupra 290 DSG was £30k in 2019, the equivalent is now £42k, meaning its much more expensive on lease, in fact its more than double the cost when i looked last week. Its so bad the cheapest 150bhp Leon that has few of the sporty extras is now £31.5k

A 40% rise in 5 years is nowhere near justified. Best thing people can do is just not buy them.

Well all cars are up 25-30% in 5 years it seems, if not more. £40k just isnt a luxury now, the threshold should be £50k at least.

Also it seems the government have forgotten about the additional VAT they are collecting as well due to the increases. Makes you wonder what they do with our money apart from giving themselves decent pay rises each year. Only £12k more a year now for them than in 2019.

Yeh but like most cars currently, massive discounts are available if your not gullible and showroom prey. Always check out Drive the Deal and Carwow before being robbed. Unfortunately for the gullible a showroom is a dangerous place, fortunately the street wise benefit, being subsidised by them!
