My first car of my own bought a few months before my test was a 72 K reg Marina 1.8 Super 4 door. Having been a biker for a few years . That was late1977. They were a very good reliable car with solid proven mechanics having the A series 1.8 (mgb) engine. Gearbox probably the weaker link but still generally reliable. They weren’t as prone to rust as the likes of Fords of the time, although the mainstream would try to convince you otherwise, mine was pretty much spotless. They went well too in 1.8 SC and TC versions. The suspension although comfortable wasn’t great, torsion bar on front and a pair of leaf springs on rear. I upgraded mine to 3 leaf springs and telescopic Shockers on front, was way better but couldn’t do much about the light back end , would often loop the loop in the snow, often deliberately! After sorting it and passing my test I traded it for exactly what I paid for it privately £500 for a 1973 L reg Cortina 2000 GXL with beige velour seats!! Costing £1195.
