Battery problem update
Hi Sparks, how did you go about getting the software update that fixed your issue? I've had my 20 plate Puma ST-Line X 1st edition for just under a year, and for the second time it's completely dead, the other time was boxing day! That time my local garage charged it & tested, said nothing wrong with the battery. I've managed to jump it this time but it was completely fine just yesterday. Very frustrated by it gotta say. I'm not under any warranty. Love the car but can't say I'm looking forward to buying a charger and messing around like that.Sparks wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 7:28 pm To be fair, the 128 pages were mainly about the 'Deep Sleep' problem that hounded the earlier Puma's. Some changed the battery and it had no effect others did. Personally, I got a
software update that cured it.
I've not had any such warning on my newer Vignale.
I would say the vast majority of owners would not have any problems. I have spoken to at least 2 Puma owners who didn't have the apps and didn't know if they'd had the problem or not..

I had two incidents and took it back to the dealer on each occasion. First visit they just charged and conditioned the battery overnight, this held it for about a month or so.
I then had more 'Deep Sleep' reports, which I ignored for about another couple of weeks, then it just wouldn't start one morning.
Ford Assist (AA) jumped it and I booked it back into the dealer....They kept it a couple of days, recharged the battery and said they did some sort of update to the software.
Whatever that was gave me trouble free driving until I exchanged it for the one I now have, which hasn't had the problem.
Sorry, no idea what the software update was, they may have just reset the battery software.
If you didn't get the 'Deep Sleep' warnings via the Ford App then you probably have a different problem. You say they tested the battery and it was OK? If it's a Rombat make then it's the original battery and may be a bit worn.

Hi Sparks, thanks for the reply, appreciate it. Yes I did have the "deep sleep" message about 7am yesterday and when I tried it at 7.15am it was completely dead! Ordered a Gooloo GP2000 jump starter, received a few hours later, and after a bit of messing finally got the car going... I just had the "deep sleep" message again, so imagine it will be dead again!Sparks wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 10:04 pmHi and welcome to the forum.ericlered wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 9:11 pmHi Sparks, how did you go about getting the software update that fixed your issue? Ps. It is the Rombat battery.
Sparks - Was the software update dealt with as a recall? If not then unfortunately it will be a trip to the local Ford dealers, as I don't think any independents will be able to do it.
Puma ST, Desert Island Blue with Driver Assistance Pack.
No, not part of a recall, in fact Ford never have acknowledged the problem....Only thing I can suggest is to reset the BCM, this has been tried by others with some success.
There are instructions somewhere on the forum for doing it. Hopefully someone will come along and help out with the info.

Hmm, not great on a sub 50 mile car, hope it just needs a good run.
MHEV gauge not moving and son checked reported faults from the car at work ' MHEV battery controller lost communications'
Update. Just gave it a good run and gauge was moving both ways, before it only showed green under braking and not on lift off.
My son also said the sound system was not working properly, sounded tinny. Did have an issue like that when I picked the car up, but it went away quickly

Hi, i haven't been following this thread for a while especially since i sold my car so apologies if this has already been mentioned. Spoke to Ford today about something else and got on about batteries and charging, now i knew charging systems work differently in newer vehicles but didn't realise that the 12v is only charged when coasting. If this is incorrect don't shoot the messenger, just thought it worth mentioning for those taking cars for long runs to charge the battery, just find some steep hills to coast down.Leaky55 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 2:58 pm Hmm, not great on a sub 50 mile car, hope it just needs a good run.

ST Line X 155 Agate Black with comfort pack plus spare wheel( sold
)

Braking and coasting recharges the 48v battery. The 12v is charged from the 48v so not when coasting....Which is my understanding...Mike wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 7:26 pmHi, i haven't been following this thread for a while especially since i sold my car so apologies if this has already been mentioned. The 12 volt battery is charged all the time when the engine is running and also during a start stop.
The 48 volt battery is charged during regen if there is enough space and can also be charge by the engine if the charge is to low.
Remember most dealers don't know how mild hybrids work.
