My son had a Focus ST edition and was going to get another one, but his usually good dealer could not give him a good price for his one or a good deal on the new one.
He was speaking to someone he knows at a BMW dealer and got himself one of these for less than the new Focus would have cost him
Thats the dilemma that a lot of people face...do you buy brand new or older used which could allow you to step up a class or two for similar money.
The M2 is a beautiful looking beast of a car, although if I was buying new my sensible head would choose the M240i.
How old is the M2?
So he had an m2 competition a few years ago and loved it, the he got an m240i and sold it as soon as he could, didn’t rate it at all.
This m2 is a brand new show room car.

In that case I am am confused because you said your son got the M2 cheaper than a Focus ST Edition.
Comparing full retail basic prices the Focus is around £43k and the M2 £66k, so even allowing for discounts it doesn't add up.
I wonder what it was about the M240i that your son didn't like, because the current model is a very highly rated car by all.
2023 Puma ST (1.5 200PS), Desert Island Blue with Driver Assistance Pack.
In reality there is absolutely no comparison between a M car and a none M car, you have to drive them to feel the massive difference. The M car always feels very different, the M*** versions feel like normal BMW’s just faster versions

Yes I agree that a proper M car is the pinnacle of the series.
It does depend on what you want from the car though, and from my own perspective I would want AWD with that amount of power. Yes tv journalists and driving gods will insist that RWD offers the purest form of motoring enjoyment, but it wouldnt be my choice. I wonder why the M2 is the only one of the current M cars that does not offer AWD?
Plus there is the £18k basic price difference between M240i and M2.
Its horses for courses though.
I am interested to hear your opinion about what was mentioned earlier - being able to buy a brand new M2 cheaper than a brand new Focus ST Edition, considering in basic retail price they are £23k apart.

I guess they don’t see a market for 4wd M2, took them dozens of years to offer the M3 4wd. I have never really liked the M2 because of its looks but had and would get another M3 and rwd every time for me. Can’t answer the cost of an M2 compared to Puma but it’s like comparing Caviar with crab. They cost a lot more for a reason.

Yes they cost a lot more...£23k in basic retail price.
I'm just asking if you think it seems unusual that one could get a deal where a brand new M2 could be cheaper than a brand new Focus ST Edition?
Let's be honest it would need to be the deal of the century.

I think impossible. Certainly not for cash. Sometimes people mean the monthly payment ends up less for various reasons, end of the day they are twice the price at least. All pcp finance is doing is paying the depreciation plus your deposit and the car is never yours until it is 100% paid off which nearly all never are so it’s a default lease

I'd have the 240iM as well, M car's are something you take a spin for at the weekend,I've driven many a M car when my son was a manager at BMW,too hard core and absolutely pointless as a daily driver, there's also there's the ego boosted image having an M car which attracts a certain type of customer
Same applies to Audi's S and RS models of which I am very familiar with, most RS renters are complete and utter $hit$
The modern M cars are 1000% better than those of old, you can live with them easy, they potter along as good as the rest in perfect comfort and decent economy. Jekyll and Hyde to perfection. I could easily have a M3 as my only car.
Ok. I got it slightly wrong. Monthly payments are about £40 more than he was being quoted for the Focus. Same deposit, BMW on lease Ford on pcp.
From 2nd year on will be cheaper pm as tax is included in the lease.
He got a lot off the car and they wanted the deal done by end of the month, so made it worth his while.
This is the reason I never do the negotiations for my own new cars, I let him do them for me.
