I've been very slow off the mark here: I've only just noticed the (quite frequent) references to the Mountune Smartflash kits. I'm about to get a new Puma. Quick views on a) whether the Mountune is a good thing to have, and b) difficult/costly to fit? Is it only of performance benefit, or does it also boost mpg? Thanks!

Personally I wouldn’t touch a 1.0 as they are already highly tuned for a 1.0 and have a poor history. Leave it alone. If you produce or more accurately use more power you will also use more fuel.

I have used Mountune for many years and on a whole range of performance Ford vehicles including my current Puma ST 1.5. Their products whilst a little pricey are good quality and I have a lot of trust in their software upgrades.
However I don't believe Mountune offer a software flash mapping upgrade for the 1.0 Puma variant that you mention. The mapping software they provide is actually very easy to install. You simply download it on your phone and using the OBD dongle provided, you install the software yourself. That said I am inclined to agree with #4251, for the Puma you have ordered I think it best you leave as is.
Mapping if done correctly it will definitely provide a performance increase and can even improve economy, that's if your not to heavy on the loud pedal obviously. But for the standard 1.0L Puma engine, a remap I think might be a step too far, plus your warranty would become invalid.
That said do have a look at Mountunes Webb site as there are some hardware upgrades available for your Puma I believe, whilst again thinking about your warranty.

I know on the newer Focus ST, Ford will be locking down the ECU.
My son was about to get another track pack one and is now having second th.
Not sure if the Puma will be the same
