Labour govts hate motorists, always have done, you are supposed to stay at home or work and only use the bus if you must travel. They were the same people that whacked fuel up last time they were in, the tories lowered the cost dramatically in real terms. But here we go again, a labour govt who will torture motorists!

The 5p drop the last Government made hasn't been passed on to the motorist, so fuel is still at a false level price wise.
Whoever is in they need to tackle the profiteering by the oil and petrol companies.

I do not condone profiteering by the oil companies, but they are small potatoes compared with by far the biggest profiteers where the motorist is concerned - the government.

I think you'll find that central government has no control whatsoever over speed vans, cameras etc.

I wonder how many people in government have a decent amount of shares in energy and fuel companies.

That information should be made public along with the receiving of gifts.

Exactly, they make more than 10x profit out of a litre of petrol than the oil companies. Thats without many other incomes, road tax, new vehicle tax, expensive car tax (40k!) etc etc etc etc etc

Central govt has almost total control, they passed the legislation that allowed the “speed awareness course” racket where the council, Police and course providers equally share the proceeds. Previous to that we had camera partnerships which due to public pressure where scrapped by the govt! For a year or two the Police spat their dummies out and switched off most speed cameras and didn’t bother with the speed vans until the new system was agreed and introduced by the government!

That can never be proved but I know around here it went down at least a few pence immediately but who knows if it worked it’s way back on.

AA and RAC have both reported it as such, so I'm guessing they did some research before complaining. Like you say, 'who knows', I think we've been screwed by everyone involved in the chain since the 70's fuel crisis.
It's one of the reasons I don't tend to look at the price per litre too much, the car has to be filled up to run, so it's pay up or give up....I'm lucky enough to not have to worry, but it must be hard for a lot of people who need their cars, have no choice and have a low income. It's those people the Government should be thinking of when they are thinking about fuel duty.
