Hi, has anyone had recent experience buying a private number plate from dvla?
Bought one for my new facelift ST end of last week , but didn't realise getting V750 certificate of entitlement took so long to process via DVLA
Website says 2-6 weeks, but spoke to someone at DVLA yesterday to try an get it quicker and they said maybe 1-2 weeks. I just imagined as I did it online it would have been something that would be processed in 24-48 hours.
Frustratingly I now have new car that I can't collect until the number plate paperwork has been completed, but my own fault for not organising the number plate in advance.

My brother in law got one recently, but, you answered your own question.......He did it all while awaiting the build and delivery....
Don't think you can do it much faster than you are...

I got one last year and it took about a week and that was around Christmas so you might be lucky. I made the mistake of not getting a retention document so can’t pick my car until it comes through.

You can always ask your dealer to allocate it a normal registration number and once you receive your paperwork from DVLA, you can then apply to have your private number allocated to the car. I do this on regular basis and it’s free if charge to put the private number
I do as Arms says. I take delivery of the car with the plates for the new number allotted to it. When the authority to fit the new plates come through, I fit them. The cost of new plates is not very much and you then have the plates also for the reg. no. allotted to the new car as well, which you will need when you sell the car, if you intend to swap your personalised number to the next car you buy (and, of course, you have the immediate use of your new car from the dealer).

Getting the call that the car was coming as soon as it did took me by surprise and I kept putting off ordering the number plate as I couldn't make my mind up
I'm just going to wait ,hopefully it will only be a few more days. Been waiting over 4 months so guess a few more days won't be too bad to deal with
