In doing a recent search concerning the apparently recent change in Ford dealers to putting 0W20 in our engines replacing the old 5W20........ Google searching the same came up with this wonderfully innapropriate google result about what oil we should use!!! - Sorry about my poor pic quality, cant screen shot for some reason?....

Hi,

I am trying to find out what is a correct oil spec for Puma 1.0 EcoBoost (92 kW) mHEV and I am totally confused.



So according to Ford User Manual we should use:

CASTROL MAGNATEC 5W-20E

WSS-M2C948-B

and also Shells and Total oil finder web pages say to use 5W-20 WSS-M2C948-B



But Castrol WEB Oil Finder (https://www.castrol.com/castrol-global- ... ryCode=GBR) says to use:

Ford - Castrol Magnatec 0W-20

Ford WSS-M2C954-A1



but for Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost (92 kW) mHEV

it says

Ford - Castrol Magnatec 5W-20 E

WSS-M2C948-B

and alternative recommendation is:

Ford - Castrol Magnatec 0W-20

Ford WSS-M2C954-A1



So what is a correct spec to use..

Ford - Castrol Magnatec 5W-20 E

WSS-M2C948-B

or

Ford - Castrol Magnatec 0W-20

Ford WSS-M2C954-A1



And also, why on Castrols page there is a different oil required for Puma and Fiesta, both with same engines 1.0 EcoBoost (92 kW) mHEV??

I would always follow Ford's recommendation.

The manual may only be correct at the time it goes to print. Mine is wrong for my Kuga as it shows 5W30 when it should be 0W30.

0w30 is for diesels and the mk4 Focus ST 2.3 engine

Mine is diesel but the owners manual shows 5W30. Just shows not everything in print is correct. I get mine direct from Vospers Ford on eBay.

go to ford direct and ask for 1 ltr of oil for your car and see what spec they give you(sorry sell) , it isn't unknown for manufacturers to change the recommended spec, 0w 30 is a thinner viscosity than say 5w /30 and so its resistance to flow is less.

Probably sell you some 3 in 1. Seriously I would never ask a dealer or anyone else for oil and let them make the decision, not a chance. I tell them exactly what oil I want, and the same for servicing, I tell/agree with them which oil is to be used beforehand

As i've said before - Ford servicing now seem to be using the '0w' oils for what ive read above. seems as if there has been a change in policy which differs from other service guidelines??.......

Finally found some info.... according to Castrol both oils are suttible for 1.0 ecoboost.

Castrol’s 0w20e MAGNATEC lubricant is compatible with Ford’s new WSS-M2C954-A1 petrol engine specification and is also backwards-compatible to applications that require SAE 5W-20 viscosity oils that meet Ford’s WSS-M2C948-B specification.

But again there is no logic for Castrol oil selector web page to recommend old 5w20e oil for fiesta and new 0w20e oil for puma with same engines.
