Hi, :)

So, I managed to have a nice summer vacation this year and then to top it off during the last week in July I finally, after having seen a lot of Puma reviews etc, found my dream car for sale.
I've had it now for a few months and enjoy every time I get to drive it. Today I decided I'd get lost :D and join the UK Puma forum. So fairly fresh Puma owner from Finland signing in.
I've read some posts earlier and a nice garage you got here. Also have some questions but first the specs:
Puma St-line X Launch Edition 155hp 6-speed mhev Nov-2020 Lucid Red.
So with pretty much all extras except a tow bar (which I'm undecided yet if I'll install or not at some point = trying to enjoy not having one). Extras include sunroof, full led headlights, electric tailgate, driver assist pack.

Here's a pic:

puma.jpg

Pros and cons so far.
Pros:
The driving and handling is great overall. I like how the handling feels and a lot of features help make it even more comfortable. The seats are best in st-x (we don't have the Vignale here) of all the models imo and I was like many probably a bit worried about the sport suspension but it's fine, especially with 18" not 19" alloys.
The cars characteristics like wheel width and all, seem spot on making it a pretty "nippy" ride. It felt a bit small at first since I had a Kuga mk1 before this one and I tried to find a model that wasn't too dark inside or with sunroof, to let some light in. I'm really happy with the full led headlights and how they work. The Ford GT like lines and the integrated turning signal is great. Also like the outlines of the car, the big smile it has up front and the electric tailgate is awesome. The insurance and tax is also much lower than before. On fuel economy i will get 5L/100km on long drives, mixed hardly over 6L/100km.
Cons:
The third and fourth gear area can be a bit sluggish, like you can't decide which gear to use. I miss a good place for the sunglasses and at the back there are no USB or 12V sockets. Software can be a bit tricky along with the screen is a little bit of a distraction while driving if you need to fidget something on it. Fords "service" and "customer support" is what it is, but got familiar with that during 8 years owning the Kuga.

Overall still happy owner and the "cons" are very minimal ones. :)

What I've done so far to the car:
Previous owner had for some reason over ten devices paired to it so i got all removed and paired my own.
I fixed the recall issue for the "emergency call" error message by going 4 times to the ford dealer until they gave up and realised it was a recall issue like i had told them the first time and when they had swapped out the TCU all was fine and error message gone, finally, and hasn't appeared since.
I had Hella brakediscs and pads, a Bosch battery (out with the RomBat) installed and an oilchange+filter done.
Next year i plan to fit new Michelin summer and winter tyres on it since both sets are 4 years old, worn and noisy Continentals at the moment.
I've had it for annual inspection now in November and all was great.
Checked it with ForScan a bit and got the stereo/surround option added to the sound menu (thanks to this forum).
If i get a dog again, I saw a nice option for boot liner for the Puma called PadsForAll Travelmat. Like a cushioned nice padded area that i believe is available customsized for the Puma.

So then a few questions:
I'd like to ask about some advice regarding the following.

1. The car has the B&O 10-speaker system (5 front, woofer+tweeter in the rear doors and the sub in the back), however on the sound diagnostic the rear speakers are very low on volume. On the diagnostic the same level sound should sound on all speakers and it's like the rear and sub are on 10% of what the front are (and no, fader is not the solution). I tried to check with forscan the speaker settings, tried a DSP reset, but i don't get the amplifier or rear speakers back to life or activated. Is there a schematic or wiring for the Amp and DSP located under the seat? I checked the two fuses in the engine bay fusebox and they were fine, but is there a way to check if the amp is working? I do also get a "pop" from the speakers 5 mins after car is switched off. Is there a setting in the as built data that could cause this? Which codes should i check? I'd like to have my sound system working 100% not 50%.

2. For some reason AM, FM, Phone work fine as sound source but DAB only gives me some "5A" station setting and won't seek the same channels as i get in FM. Is this a code setting in the ACM i can set to fix?

3. I'd like to activate the rear lights to be on as default instead of off when it's bright. What was the DRL code setting for this?

4. Car wash. I know this may sound a bit silly but with the electric tailgate. How can i be sure it won't open during the car wash if water splashes under the rear bumper? Should the car be running to avoid it opening, should it be completely locked or should i use the setting in the dash for the tailgate to make sure there is no risk of it opening halfway in the wash procedure? Something like this happened to a car, so how do you make certain it won't open when/if you use a car wash?

Hei Tervetuloa foorumille......Great English and a really good first post.

That's the model I first had and to be honest, apart from now having the auto box, I preferred it to the Vignale i now have (slightly).
As for your questions, I can't answer the B&O/DAB question except to say I've not had the problem you describe with speakers and I don't listen to Radio in the car.
I believe that having the rear lights on with the DRL's is possible via Forscan and has been discussed sometime in the past on here. I've not dabbled with Forscan so can't tell you any more on that.

As far as the tailgate is concerned, in almost 5 years of ownership with the power tailgate it's never once opened because of a carwash. It's also never been affected by heavy rain and motorways semi flooded producing heavy spray under the car.
I'm not sure, but it may be disabled if the key is detected in the car or it's not very close to the tailgate, something you could test with someone's help.

I hope others can help with the other things....

Kiitos Sparks. Good Finnish and thanks.

Yeah, the B&O and DAB one are tricky. I suspect for the B&O bug it's either some fuse i haven't found or the Amp is dead **. I don't know if there is a setting to activate Amp for rear speakers in ForScan? It feels like it's the Amp since there is a faint noise from them, like the sound signal is trying to go through but lacks amplification. For the DAB on the other hand i think it must be a setting that is off somewhere in the software.

For rear DRL activation i saw the three first numberseries in a thread but i have no clue as to what the one number which was 6th should have been changed to? Maybe it says in the F150 spreadsheet unless there is a more Puma-specific one somewhere?

The carwash part, i saw some nightmare of a stw that had it's electric tailgate open all of a sudden in the middle of the wash. But i'm sure you're right. shouldn't worry about it in this case. There was a warning to not powerwash the rear with fob in pocket. then it might open of course. But i guess while in car and car running no such danger?

I'm a bit of a detail freak so i'd def want to find a solution sooner or later to the audio stuff.

** EDIT: could be also some fault in wiring maybe.

Small update:
1. B&O and the faint rear speakers. I tried to fidget a bit with the cable plugs for the AMP under the driver seat. If an unplug, re-plug would have reset it like i seen in a F150 vid with similar amp. There they unplugged the smaller black one (AMP has a blue plug, big black plug and small black plug) and it had miraculously started working. I even tried while music was playing move that cable around a bit but no difference. Then i looked into ForScan settings what the AMP setting is. In the ACM As Built, the 727-01-01 xx*x xxxx xxxx was 727-01-01-9C29-2AAC-10DB so the nr 2 = Front: Int Amp, Rear: Fixed L/L (Smart Amp). I tried changing it to 0 for "Front: Int Amp, Rear: Int Amp" but volume was gone, changed it back to 2, same thing and i noticed volume had to be increased, so i don't know if it would have helped in this case.

What settings do you have on the third number on the 727-01-01 ACM in Forscan? Trying to figure out what it should be on 10-speaker B&O sound system with AMP and DSP. .

2. The DAB issue with 5A block and no stations to be found. On APIM i have 7D0-01-01-8A6A-019A-50B8 (A=dab enabled, HD radio disabled) & 7D0-02-02-8B08-90AC-BC66 (B=dab disabled, HD radio disabled) and enhanced DAB on 7D0-02-03 **xx xx is EE on the car. On the ACM 727-01-01 x*xx xxxx xxxx was 727-01-01-9C29-2AAC-10DB (C=HD radio disabled, DAB available). I also tried the manual seeking with the fast forward button on each block separately, tried to wait patiently if any DAB would appear, but nothing. Just have those weird 5A blocks on the DAB menu and says no stations available. I think it might be regional and there's a chance there are no DAB signals to get on the multiplex blocks in Finland and the DAB system is only by DVB-T. So maybe it won't ever find anything here. At least the FM works so not a big issue. The rear speaker sound issue being what i'd like to get fixed the most.

3. The rear DRL light activation. I believe it is a success, but not 100% sure (since it's very dark, have to wait for a bright day to check it out. But i saw in the forum elsewhere the line to edit is on BCM (body control module):
726-11-04 **** ***X ** Where if X = 1 change to 5 to activate rear DRL, if not 1 then add 4 to the value you have. Keeping in mind that A=10, B=11, C=12, D=13, E=14, F=15 AND the last 4 hex numbers change automatically, my line was 726-11-04-3205-02C9-D115 and i changed the 9 to D (because 9+4=13 and D=13) and the new line is now: 726-11-04-3205-02CD-D119. So it should work now.

4. Carwarsh. not been to carwash yet, but not as worried about the electric tailgate anymore.

"Bonus:"
ForScan additional features of interest:

- Cruise Control to Screen
I looked at the APIM cruise control to screen feature (change 7D0-09-02 0000 0000 00E2 to 7D0-09-02 000E 0000 00E2 but thought about it and left it unchanged.

- Climate Control to Screen
I went into the "option menu" (the one not "As Built") and scrolled to the following and changed them:
"Climate control - Manual -> Automatic"
"Climate domain - Disabled -> On"
And now see the Climate control on screen when car is running.

I still need some advice on the sound settings for the AMP. Is it a default factory setting which isn't activating it for the rear speakers or is it bust? I saw some second hand ones aren't too expensive and it should be easy to swap out but if it's working then i'd have the same issues with the same settings on the next one. I did enable the "stereo/surround" to show in the sound menu with APIM 7D0-01-02 027C 0642 8222 to APIM 7D0-01-02 027C 0442 8220 but i can't enjoy the B&O sound before it works 100% also to rear speakers + sub.

I have old ASBUILT data for when i originally found the fix for surround sound on the first edition Puma's dating back to 2020 but nothing for the ones that came with the fix.

This is the one with surround sound on
727-01-01 9C33 16FC 1021
This is the one from another lot of ASBUILD data
727-01-01 9C33 16FC 0011

Problem is now have have a Puma with Sync4 so the ASBUILD data is completly different

@geno

Have you access to the Google sheets which a guy called livinitup did. They are based on the Ford F-150 but a lot of the sync 3 info is the same across the models.

@robgee Hey :)
Interesting.. Since for the Amp setting "727-01-01 xx*x xxxx xxxx" i have 727-01-01-9C29-2AAC-10DB so a number "2" declaring front internal and rear fixed L/L. "3" on there would mean front internal and rear none? would that mean it goes through another setting somewhere instead or mechanically? I'm now tempted to try those two with the "9C33-xxxx-xxxx" but should i leave the rest as is and only change the "2" to "3"? Or are the other codes necessary to change also at the same time?
EDIT: comparing Livnitups ACM 2020 spreadsheet and ACM 2021-2023 those settings are a little different. Are they by car year model or software update?
Aaaw bugger.. :D you went and upgraded.. Dammit. Well.. I'd be ever so thankful if you could brush the dust off the old codes.. At least for this specific setting. Deal? :D

@Smartguy67 Hey :)
Yeah, among other spreadsheets i did read through Livnitups a couple times, but it's not totally clear which specific settings should be on and not. Like when i checked the DAB ones some were on and also off. I noticed similarities in the codes but also some are missing. Like the rear DRLs, for example, but found two posts in this forum that cleared it up, so that one should be ok now. It'd be great to get the specific codes for working B&O to compare with. Or is a firmware update also needed?

Sounds good. I'll do that. Appretiate it.

On investigating the two spreadsheets i think i had misunderstood the "rear: not used part" as it said in the newer spreadsheet that number was referring to the speaker output, not the rear speakers. Then the rest of the code you had posted made more sense than what i have currently.

Today i saw the rear DRLs working. On the dab my setting should be fine so no stations found because they can't be found on multiplex blocks. Only on DVB-T if such a setting exists.

Tomorrow i will try again on the soundsettings since robgee helped me out so it's a bit more clear. Have a kind of 50/50 feeling about whether it will work or not but i'll know tomorrow. 🙂
