That’s the problem when we go off topic!Smartguy67 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 8:59 pm @4251 - I think you have lost track somewhere. This goes back to where you said what nugget thought of analogue dials with no numbers. I responded with the same nugget that designs parcel shelves, the early powershift and the 1.5 petrol with coolant issues.
You asked what is the 1.5 coolant issue. I responded with the 1.5 engine fitted to the Kuga up until 2018. I then went onto say the engine was dropped after 2019 in favour of the 3 cylinder dragon engine.
You then asked where has that info come from hence my links.
It's all relative to the "nuggets" who design things at Ford which are a bad design.
In summary I think this thread has been derailed a little as it's reference the new Puma facelift so I may just have to pop along to mg local dealer and take a look.
New Puma facelift, so excited!
If you can maintain your speed at light throttle it is fine and very economical. But put your foot down and labour the engine it isn’t and will be far more uneconomical than dropping to 5th or 4th, plus some might say, risk lspi, I wouldn’t. My Cupra 310 in normal mode hits top gear with 1500 or slightly less revs at light throttle ! Downshifts as soon as you give it any moderate throttle. Which is pretty much what I said a manual can do.
Yes if you have a flat road and can maintain a steady speed without the need to accelerate then it should be fine...but there would not be many roads that would allow this where you would be comfortable sitting at 40mph. What I mean by that is the class of road and speed limit would normally be 20 or 30mph higher therefore sitting at 40mph is uncomfortably low.4251 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 7:53 am If you can maintain your speed at light throttle it is fine and very economical. Regarding the need to accelerate from 40mph at 1500rpm...I would say the majority of drivers would be unable to do it gently enough to avoid labouring the engine, because it really does require feathering the throttle so the time taken to increase speed is significantly longer.
On the whole it really is not worth it to be in 6th gear at 40mph in my Puma.
I am curious about your Cupra...you say it shifts into top gear (7th) at 1500rpm, but what speed does this equate to?
I have previously owned 300bhp+ cars with 7 speed DSG boxes from 2 different manufacturers, but neither of them would shift into 7th as low as 40mph regardless of throttle pedal pressure.

It's not the end of the word guys...it's certainly not an unusual occurence on an internet forum site so there's no need to be shocked.
The thread starter last posted a month ago so I hope they are not too annoyed.

Haha, not annoyed at all :
I’ve been busy clocking up 2000 miles in my new puma

Funny enough I took it for a 160 mile run yesterday although an Ark would have been more suitable! It actually goes for top gear (7th) at under 1500, about 1350/1400 and does steady to moderate acceleration without dropping down, you have to give more than a feather of throttle for it to drop down. Then when you do it often drops a couple of gears. Whereas in Sport it is the opposite extreme, maintains around 2.5k minimum which is much more annoying, one extreme to the other, but the paddle shifts on the DSG alleviates this. It is very smooth at those revs and accelerates, just not a lot of torque. Can’t remember what the minimum speed was in 7th, think it is mid to high 30’. The EA888 is undersquare and so is the 1.0 which usually equates to more lower down torque and response. That said the L block Focus ST 2.0 engine which is oversquare pulls like a train from low revs and is one of the most responsive turbo engines out there, certainly noticeable more responsive than the EA888 below 2k, although my 888 has a bigger turbo.Ron240 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 9:08 amYes if you have a flat road and can maintain a steady speed without the need to accelerate then it should be fine...but there would not be many roads that would allow this where you would be comfortable sitting at 40mph. Just had the Puma out , it pulls ok at light throttle from about 1350 too and with some boost (5+ psi) and surprisingly doesn’t tell you to change down! Ours is nicely loosened up now with 15k on it and was carefully run in, hence doesn’t burn a drop of oil between services
