Sync software update !!!

Finally had the update come through via my phones hotspot. It downloaded and installed two different files with 23188 being the final one but maps are still on V11 with no further updates available for download.

You will usually have to wait for Ford servers to see the car is updated and then it should get free you the map update.

Probably due to them putting all their efforts into sync 4 which have a different map version so can't be cross checked.

Mine has updated the sync and the maps over wi fi ,However every time I go out to car to go out it is still showing it is still down loading with the symbol on the screen ? This has been doing this for about 3 weeks now ?

I had the same issue, but eventually the symbol just disappeared.
Maps now all updated, and no need for all the "zipping" and "unzipping" malarkey, plus usb sticks etc. Or, am I missing something ?

Just be aware that it updates the Sync screen with the versions at the start of the update, not at the completion like any normal update would do. The only confirmed way is when it has produced a log file, or the https://www.ford.co.uk/support/sync-maps-updates#/ shows everything is up to date.

They are notorious for dropping updates early, they haven’t updated the MK3.5 Focus Sync 3 for two years now when some cars were only 3-4 years old! I expect the Puma and Focus version will be neglected soon too.Then the early Sync 4’s will follow

A few years ago Sync 3 was far better than it is now. You notice there are mobile apps, that are now useless, you originally could run many apps like sat nav, waze etc without using carplay, all within sync 3. I used it all of the time and can’t remember for sure but it may have been wireless too.

Yes it does, because there are many files that take hours to download, and more importantly you have to have the ignition on! As soon as it turns off downloading pauses.

The unzipping is easy, just download file, right click on it snd extract all to your usb root directory

That's probably why it took a few weeks for the download to finish !
Thanks for the information about the usb, but none of my devices have usb connections - does anyone still use USBs these days ? (And, I'm afraid I have no idea whatsoever as to what a usb root directory is !)

Yes I have to use usb’s more than ever as it’s DVD drives that have become more obsolete. USB for flash drives and SD cards are the main source of local storage and absolutely essential and not going anywhere.

Don’t you have a PC or laptop? Still essential devices for life and updated Sync. I got a 2020 Focus a couple of days ago which had F8 maps and a really old software version. Using the online portal and a usb memory stick it’s all updatwd to current now. Each about an hour of the usb stick being plugged in. Perfect!
