It is done by the gps most of the time, and supported by the camera, occasionally! Thats why you get incorrect displays. I know of many that appear incorrectly at precisely the same locations every time without and nowhere near a road sign. The camera is very poor at picking up road signs to the point I question if it’s working at all. Compared to my Cupra, it is crap !

My fwd camera works surprisingly well on roadsigns. There is one grubby/stained no overtaking sign on a dark heavily wooded bit of road that the camera always picks up.

The manual says the complete opposite.
Suggesting it uses the camera first and if any nav data is contrary to that it decides which is right.

Detected traffic signs appear in the instrument cluster display. The sensor is behind the interior mirror.

Note: Traffic sign data provided by the navigation system contains information integrated to the data carrier release.
If your vehicle has a navigation system, stored traffic sign data may influence the indicated speed limit value.

Ford have never claimed it is achieved 100% by the cameras, it is a combination of both, but in practice mostly the GPS. Like when it regularly still shows you speed limits from previous roadworks etc that have gone! I have been using it for about 4 years so don’t need any other evidence.

GPS doesn't do that. Maps don't do that. Live traffic service does that. Temporary speed restrictions do not feature in the map data that is stored in your vehicle's nav system. GPS simply gives your location. It doesn't know what the speed limit is

In Australia it’s the opposite to what your manual says.

My map is 3 years out of date and when I turn on to many, many roads, it defaults to the gps data of that road’s speed limit.

Then when I pass a speed sign it changes to the correct speed.

Just to be pedantic again, GPS only gives your location. That data from the satellite doesn't contain information about speed limits. It's your map software that does that and as you say, the information from the camera will override that.

Exactly. The speed limit in a road local to me recently changed from 40mph to 30mph. I drove along it on the first day of the change, and the new 30mph limit displayed on the dash, the camera having identified the new speed limit signs.
