I can't find a previous thread on this topic; apologies if I've missed it.
My Puma, with which I'm delighted, is 8 months old and has done just under 10,000 miles. For the last few weeks, the flow from the windscreen washers has been weak, getting weaker, so I took the car into the local Ford dealer yesterday to ask what's up. My assumption was blocked jets, although I couldn't see any blockage. It turns out it's a 'known issue' to do with mould growing on (and progressively blocking) the screenwash reservoir filter, which costs £130 to put right, as it involves removing the wheel arch trim and is quite fiddly - and it's not covered by the warranty, I was astonished to discover.
I've found a couple of videos on YouTube detailing the repair process, which does indeed look a bit of a fiddle, especially putting the wheel arch trim back, and I'm now wondering if it wouldn't be easier and a lot cheaper to siphon out the reservoir contents and put some bleach or similar in and leave it to work on the mould.
Two questions for the forum: i) has anyone else had this problem and how did you deal with it? ii) shouldn't this be covered by the car warranty?
Many thanks!
Roy

SCREENWASH RESERVOIR FILTER BLOCKED
My Puma is over 2 years old and has never had such a problem and no one else has mentioned it on the Forum.
Not sure it should be covered by warranty as it's not caused by any wear, tear or breakdown.

Hi all, just put my 3 year old Puma in TrustFord for windscreen washer not working. Again it was the filter that was blocked. It need water tank to be removed and both cleaned. The filter isnt easy to get to so cost me £150. I think i would rather not have filter and let the jets get blocked, at least you can get to them. Unless someone can justify the filter i think this is a part we can do without. I have had Fords for over 40 years and never had a problem with windscreen washer

Could have saved yourself £150 with a couple of Steradent (or other denture cleaning tablets), or some bleach.

Hi, wish i had thaught of that, sounds simple now.
What simple universal fix would you recommend? I guess bleach is not so good either? Would some dishwasher tablet work to clean it up?
